National Arena League - Gala 2
Sat 11 Nov 2019 (back to calendar)
Results & Report
The second round of Arena League saw us up against much tougher opposition than round 1 and we narrowly missed out on taking 1st place, eventually coming in 3rd place. This strong result puts us into the top gala in the division for the final round and gives us a chance to battle for trophies and promotion.
It is safe to say that the whole team massively improved from round 1, with all but 5 swimmers/ relay teams beating their round 1 times by large amounts. Just some of the highlights from round 2 were:
The final result of 3rd, although an extremely impressive result, did not show our full capabilities with 6 disqualifications preventing us from getting more points. The coaching team will be working hard over the next few weeks to rectify this before the Oxford and Luton meets plus round 3.
However with such a high point score, combined with the win in round 1, means we will still be up against the top teams in the division for the final, racing against teams such as Ledbury and Bicester (both of which have twice the training hours of ours). This is already an impressive feat and we will be aiming for another top 3 finish.

- The 9-11 and under teams took a clean sweep of the relays, winning all 4 by large margins of over a length.
- Magnus P-T took the freestyle leg of the boys 13/U medley relay in a time of 28.8. A massive way under his PB of 31.1
- Ben & Patrick R-B showed their incredible technique and underwater phase skills to take 1st and 2nd respectively in their 50 Backstroke and 50 Breaststroke individuals.
- The girls backstrokers impressed, winning all 4 of the individual races. Well done to Elena H, Ella J, Lucy M and Natasha L in their respective age groups.
- Finally the open boys of Chris A, Ewan S, Chris W, Josh B, Joe W and Moses B (Moses swimming against people twice his age and size) won all 7 of their races to take maximum points in the age group.
