Land Training

Picture
Our land training sessions take place in the Activity Hall of the leisure centre on Sundays, 07:40-08:00 for the Academy Squad, 08:00 - 09:00 for the Performance Squad.

This is a great facility and also comes with access to lots of equipment.

Ewan Springett is our Strength & Conditioning Coach and is a qualified personal trainer.

Land training is a great way of developing our swimmers as it will increase their strength and fitness, whilst also allowing for variety within the weekly training schedule.

The sessions are tailored to the phase of training the swimmers are currently in, and are planned so as to benefit the swimmers ability in the pool.

Here are some popular misconceptions about land training which we address below:

1. "Land training is just for the elite swimmers to improve their six pack'."
Nothing could be further from the truth, as more junior swimmers will benefit significantly from land training as all activities are tailored to age & ability. For instance each activity set can be a personal achievement target in a set time rather than "do 20 of this and then 30 of that".

2."It's really hard work and no fun."
You will always get out of each session exactly what you put in .......so it can be tough when you are pushing yourself ........but Ewan is committed to making it fun as well.

3. "It's an extra expense."
The cost of land training, previously charged per session, is now included in the monthly training fees

You can see for yourself in a couple of brief videos below  ( N.B. you need to click on them more than once (up to 3 times) to play
